Welcome to my blog!

"The yogi renounces all that takes him away from the Lord. He renounces his own desires, knowing that all inspiration and right action come from the Lord. He renounces those who oppose the work of the Lord, those who spread demonic ideas and who merely talk of moral values but do not practise them." - B.K.S. Iyengar

Can It!

I've been on AOL for more years than I'd like to recall. I know AOL like the back of my hand (maybe better). I've had more people on and off of my buddy list than I can remember. I know just about every Instant Message sound there is. I also know that movies are STILL using the SAME canned sound effects that AOL uses for its Instant Message sounds.
Case in point: Stay Alive (2006). Now I love me some horror movies, but when the first sound out of this movie was a canned AOL scream, I knew it was a bad omen. O.K., I admit, it was entertaining, and it kept me interested, but without ruining too much for those who may want to see it, there's a particular sound in the movie that's supposed to send shivers up and down your spine, and that sound is the cat purr from AOL's Instant Message sounds. All in all, the movie wasn't bad despite the canned sound effects and the fact that Malcolm from "Malcolm in the Middle" was in it, but PLEASE STOP WITH THE AOL SOUND EFFECTS!
P.S. The ending was a very disappointing set-up for a sequel that will probably never be made.

Giving Thanks

This year I am most grateful to God for His direct transmission of Yoga to me, in all of its Glory and aspects. I am especially thankful for the warrior postures which remind me to remain vigilant in my practice and in my mission. They remind me not to sit back and allow evil to run rampant in His creation. They remind me to actively fight what I know to be wrong. They remind me to remind others to do the same. They strengthen my body, and fortify my soul, so that I may stand strong, tall, and confident in opposition to deception, and the people who use it for a brief advantage. The postures bring light to my body so that I may light the way for others; helping them to abandon the darkness which has engulfed their lives. Darkness gives them that brief advantage, but that same darkness which they project to the world will ultimately turn on them, and destroy them.
I am, of course, as always, thankful for true friends and my real family, and for the fact that I am able to transmit Yoga to them as well. Danyavad Ananda. Hari Om.

Kids

Today was my niece's third birthday (O.K., technically yesterday was, since this is being posted at 12:30 AM on Thursday). She's the cutest little girl on the planet! No, really, she is! When I got home I recieved a photo of my adopted son from Children International. He's the cutest little boy on the planet, next to my flesh-and-blood nephew, of course. Now I have a daughter in the Phillipines, and a son in the Dominican Republic. Don't be jealous; adopt your own at children.org.

Fluff
As if to prove my point about the media, on the first page of AOL's welcome screen, you know, where it says "In News", the top story is "Which State Is Most Vain? - Drivers Display Pride On Bumpers- See Top 10 In Personalized Tags". WHAT THE FUCK? In order to get the real news you have to scroll down to see "Teens Allegedly Burn, Behead Man For Thrills". Has this become so commonplace that people's license plates are more important? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY?
Canton High School senior Jean Pierre Orlewicz, 17, and Alexander James Letkemann, 18, ambushed 26-year-old Daniel Sorenson on Wednesday in a garage owned by Orlewicz's grandfather, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. A tarp had been spread on the floor, she said.
"They lured him in the garage, where they prepared a space to kill him," Worthy said at a news conference.
Sorenson, who had worked as a bouncer, was stabbed multiple times in the back, his head sawed off and his body wrapped in the tarp, authorities said. Orlewicz and Letkemann burned his hands and feet with a blowtorch, possibly in an effort to conceal his identity, Worthy said.
Does this have anything to do with the insane politics of the Bush administration?
Seems to me that if these kids weren't exposed to video of beheadings on the Internet, this may have never happened. I don't recall seeing videos of beheadings prior to this administration, but beheadings fuel people's rage, and rage fuels support for illegal wars. Fuel. What more will be done in the name of filling oil czars' pockets? It's fifty-five degrees on a mid-November's night in New York City. This country is on a highway to hell, and it's all coming from the top. WAKE UP AMERICA!
